The Leopard 2A4 is the most produced and widespread variant of the Leopard 2 main battle tank family. Developed by Germany, it represents the pinnacle of the original Cold War-era Leopard design, featuring a distinct vertical-faced turret before later versions transitioned to angled, arrow-shaped armour. Over 1,800 units were built between 1985 and 1992, and its extensive post-Cold War export history has made it an iconic piece of modern military hardware globally.
Being used in modern conflict, the Leopard 2A4 and its original vertical composite armour has proven vulnerable to modern anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) and First-Person View (FPV) kamikaze drones.
